Venue
SpaceUp LA 2011 will be held at the Columbia Memorial Space Center in Downey, CA.
Space Center History
Downey holds a unique place in the history of American space travel. The museum is located next to the historic Rockwell manufacturing facility, which was constructed during WWII to produce aircraft (such as the T-28 and BT-13) and missiles. In the 1960′s, the facility produced capsules for the Apollo program as well as the Saturn V 2nd stage. Years later, it produced major parts for the Space Shuttle. Although the site is no longer in aerospace (much of the space is now used to film movies), it’s truly an honor to hold SpaceUp at one of America’s most historic sites for space innovation!
SpaceUp LA at the museum:
On August 6th and 7th, SpaceUp LA will literally take over the museum! The doors will be closed to the public and our event will be given exclusive access to the entire museum ALL DAY on Saturday and Sunday! (How cool is that?!)
All SpaceUp LA attendees will be able to tour the museum and participate in its activities for the entirety of the event, and we will have Session Pods spread across various areas of the Center.

The museum has state of the art Audio/Visual systems in every pod for our (and your) use. Also, there are tons of activities spread out across the museum, such as:
- Space Shuttle simulator
- VEX Robotics Mars Exploration
- Apollo drop-test capsule
Special Event: Mission Control Simulator
The Space Center has an amazing Mission Control and Space Station role-playing center that you must see to believe! The employees at the museum will give all members access to the Mission Control room and allow participants to control a real (well, close enough) space mission! Adults and kids alike will enjoy this Special Session to be held on Saturday and Sunday.
